The Squeak

Okay, so last night while Boo was eating I carried some fresh laundry into my closet. As I was walking back into my bedroom, Boo was coming into the bedroom from the hall. I guess I must have startled her because she stopped dead in her tracks and well, looked startled. She wasn't moving and I thought that maybe she was stuck to the carpet (when her nails get too long, she sticks to the carpet like velcro) so I started toward her to get her unhooked and she opened her mouth and let out a SQUEAK. Not a MEOW, but a SQUEAK. Two of them. I freaked out (I'm hypersensitive to anything being wrong with her). She ran. I ran after her. She was breathing, wasn't coughing, didn't seem to be in any distress so I decided to try to get her to meow. She's very vocal and sometimes meows insessantly driving me up one wall and down the other. I tried aggravating her and that didn't work. I went out on the deck with her where she's usually pretty chatty and that didn't work. I offered her food, I petted her, I tried playing with her and nothing worked. I was really starting to worry about this so I called my mom to see if she ever remembered this happening with any of our other cats. When I told her about the SQUEAK, she busted out laughing. Then I started laughing. It was pretty funny actually. After we quit laughing, I held the phone down to Boo and asked if she wanted to say hello to Grandma and she let out a weak MEOW - not a SQUEAK. And then, it's like she realized that she could actually MEOW again so she started in. The first minute or two was wonderful - just to hear that sweet little voice. After that, I was wishing she would go back to the SQUEAK :)
